Liam Payne ‘taken to hospital’ during Italian break with girlfriend after suffering ‘agonising pain’

Former One Direction star Liam Payne has been taken to hospital after suffering “agonising pain”, according to a new report.

It’s been claimed that the 30-year-old fell ill in Lake Como, Italy while he was celebrating his one-year anniversary with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy.

A source said that Payne was “in a bad way” weeks after he told fans that he’d had to postpone his first solo tour after being hospitalised with a serious kidney infection.

“Liam is in a bad way but he’s in the best place he can be and finally doctors will be able to get to the bottom of what is going on” an insider told The Sun.

“Naturally he is gutted that his and Kate’s trip to Lake Como has been ruined but at least she was there to help him when he fell ill.

“Doctors have warned him not to expect to be signed off to go home for at least another six days.”

According to the insider, medics want to “do every test possible to understand the issue” while the outlet also reported that Payne was taken to A&E in an ambulance before being taken to a hospital ward for emergency treatment.

He is expected to stay for a few days.

The report comes weeks after Payne was forced to postpone his upcoming tour of South America after being in hospital with a “serious kidney infection”.

The British singer, who celebrated his 30th birthday on August 29, said the infection was something “I wouldn’t wish on anyone” and had been instructed by doctors to “rest and recover”.

In an Instagram post shared on August 25, he wrote: “It’s with a heavy heart I have to tell you that we have no other choice but to postpone my upcoming tour of South America.

“Over the past week I’ve been in hospital with a serious kidney infection, it’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and doctors’ orders are that I now need to rest and recover.

“I was beyond excited to come play for you guys.

“To all of you who have bought tickets: I’m so sorry. We’re working to re-schedule the tour as soon as we possibly can, but for now we will be refunding the tickets – so please look out for updates from your point of purchase.

“Thanks as always for the love and support, and look forward to seeing you soon.”

The Standard has contacted Liam Payne’s representative for comment.
