A ‘friend’ of Liam Payne, a hotel worker and an alleged drug dealer have been charged following an investigation into the former One Direction singer’s death.
On Thursday, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s office confirmed in a press release that charges had been made against a member of staff at the Casa Sur Hotel in Palermo where Payne tragically died, an alleged drug dealer and a friend who saw Payne “on a daily basis” while he was in Argentina.
Previously, the Argentinian newspaper Clarín reported that the unidentified friend was arrested after raids were carried out at their home, along with two employees at the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires where Payne tragically died.
The friend was reportedly charged for supplying the 31-year-old with drugs before his death.
On Thursday, TMZ had also reported that raids had been carried out by the Buenos Aires National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s office at the friend, and two hotel workers’ homes, along with the workers’ hotel lockers at the hotel in Palermo.
According to TMZ, local law enforcement claimed that police were “reviewing security footage”. They claim that the friend was identified via texts on Payne’s phone to see who sold him illegal substances.
Liam Payne died on October 16 after falling from a third-storey balcony at the Casa Sur Hotel in Palermo, Buenos Aries. Preliminary autopsy reports show his cause of death was due to the injuries he sustained during the fall. However, the report also revealed that Payne had multiple drugs in his system at the time of death, including pink cocaine.
Payne’s body was flown back to London on Wednesday so his family can lay him to rest.
Speaking to the UK publication The Mirror, a source said that Payne’s funeral would be “low key and respectful” with a few “song tributes from some very big acts”.
