Liam Payne's blood alcohol levels at time of death revealed

Liam Payne’s blood alcohol levels have been revealed at the time of his death, four months on from the tragedy.

The One Direction star died aged 31 after falling from a hotel’s third-floor balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16.

He had a blood alcohol level (BAC) of 0.27 percent at the time, according to a toxicology report from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday.

For context, the Strip That Down singer’s BAC was more than three times higher than the legal driving limit of 0.08 per cent in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

A level that high would be classified as “severe intoxication”, with the person possibly needing help walking, experiencing mental confusion, and suffering nausea or vomiting, according Stanford University’s Vaden Health Services.

An initial test in November found that Payne had alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system, although the exact amounts were not revealed.

Argentina’s public prosecutor said in a statement at the time: "This situation would rule out the possibility of a conscious or voluntary act on the part of the victim since, in the state he was in, he did not know what he was doing nor could he understand it."

Authorities confirmed that the 25 injuries the boyband star had suffered were consistent with a fall from the balcony.

"The head injuries were sufficient to cause death," the statement added. “While the internal and external hemorrhages in the skull, thorax, abdomen and limbs contributed to the mechanism of death."

The prosecution said Payne could have plunged from his hotel room balcony in a state of “semi or total unconsciousness.”

Photos purportedly taken from inside his hotel room showed snow-like powder left on a table and a smashed-in TV screen.

Police also discovered a blister pack of clonazepam, a central nervous system depressant, and over-the-counter medications scattered among Payne’s belongings.

Shortly before his death, the hotel manager called 911 to report a guest acting aggressively and under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Payne’s funeral was held in November in Buckinghamshire and attended by his One Direction bandmates and Cheryl, the mother of his son, Bear.

Payne and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy were in Argentina together to attend his former bandmate Niall Horan’s concert shortly before Payne’s tragic death.

US influencer Cassidy had left their trip early to look after their rescue dog at their Florida home.
