Liam Payne was honoured in a touching tribute presented by comedian and friend of the late-star Jack Whitehall at the 2025 Brit Awards.
Payne, who passed away last October after falling from a hotel in Buenos Aires, was described as “an incredibly kind soul” in Whitehall’s speech.
“Ladies and gentleman, it’s now time to take a moment and remember a very special person who meant so much to so many of the people in this room and to millions of you around the world,” Whitehall began.

“Last October, we woke to the devastating news that Liam Payne had tragically passed away.
“He achieved so much in the short time that he was on this earth, and was not only a supremely gifted musician but an incredibly kind soul who touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with.
“We have so many amazing memories of Liam here at the Brits, so tonight we celebrate his legacy, look back and remember the remarkable Liam Payne.”

A video montage of Payne played after Whitehall’s speech, featuring him singing One Direction’s “Little Things” and a slideshow of images stemming from his childhood.
The video also showed Payne alongside his fellow One Direction bandmates – Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, and Zayn Malik.
While in One Direction, Payne won seven Brit Awards including Best Single Of The Year for “What Makes You Beautiful” in 2012 and British Artist Video Of The Year for “You & I” in 2015.
Singer Rita Ora also mentioned Payne during her speech at the 2025 MTV Awards, calling him “one of the kindest people I knew”.
He was also featured earlier this year at the 2025 Grammy Awards’ In Memoriam section, while Coldplay’s Chris Martin sang “All My Love”.
Payne died on October 16, 2024 after falling from a hotel’s third-story balcony in Buenos Aires, with his cause of death ultimately being confirmed by a coroner as ‘polytrauma’ – a term used to describe multiple and traumatic injuries to the body.
