Liam Llewellyn's famous dad reacts to former Love Island star's sweet message

Liam Llewellyn 's famous dad has been throwing support behind his son during his Love Island 2022 stint. Former Wales scrum-half David Llewellyn, better known as Dai, won four caps for his country in the late 1990s. You can read more about him, here.

Earlier this week, Dai told WalesOnline how proud he was of Liam and revealed that his 22-year-old son didn't even apply for the show.

"It brings a lot of emotions out in you as his father," he said. "I'm missing him for one. But I'm very proud of him. I didn't realise how big this was until this week. It's big in America, Canada and all around the world.

"When he first rung me up, he said he needed to speak to me. I asked if everything was okay and he said the Love Island crew had contacted him - he hadn't even applied - about an interview. He went down to London a couple of times and obviously must have nailed it because now he's on the show." You can read more of our interview with him, here.

Dai has also been supporting Liam on social media, during the launch episode the rugby star tweeted: "My boy . So proud of you son . Love you go nail it," followed by a string of Welsh flag emojis.

But it's not been an easy start to villa life for Liam who was left single and vulnerable after late arrival Davide Sanclimenti, 27, chose to couple up with Gemma Owen, 19. Liam and Gemma had originally been paired together by the public.

Speaking to Liam after the recoupling, Davide said: "I had to do it, don’t take it personally. To be honest, we spoke on the terrace as well and we were laughing a lot."

Speaking later on, Liam revealed how he was feeling and said: "I was a bit gutted. It’s a punch in the stomach type feeling. You never want that."

In Wednesday night's episode, the student from Newport was given a lifeline, however, when the public chose him to go on dates with two new bombshells, Afia Tonkmor and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.

Following the news, many fans on Twitter got behind Liam, including former Love Island 2020 contestant Shaughna Phillips, who told her 110k followers: "My heart just burst for Liam."

Responding to the tweet, Liam's dad simply wrote: "Thank you," with the hashtag Team Liam.

Love Island continues at 9pm on weeknights on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox. For more showbiz and television stories, get our newsletter here.
