Liam Hemsworth is unrecognisable as he debuts grey hair and bushy beard for new film

Silver fox Liam Hemsworth looked completely different for a new role in his new film Poker Face.

The Hunger Games star was worlds away from his usual sharp look as he debuted a bushy salt and pepper beard.

Australian streaming service Stan will be premiering the thriller next month, which was directed by Russell Crowe.

In the film's trailer, the heartthrob wore a sports jacket and casual trousers, while his usual fresh face was peppered with acne scarring and even his eyebrows had a hint of grey in them.

Liam stars alongside rapper RZA, Daniel MacPherson from Neighbours and Steve Bastoni.

The Aussie actor's sister-in-law Elsa Pataky, from the Fast and Furious franchise, and Jack Thompson, will also appear in the film.

The story follows the glamorous, yet risky, world of poker.

This will be Russell's second movie as a director, following his award-winning The Water Diviner in 2014.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, he called the movie an "extreme project", adding that it came onto his radar "very fast".

"Rewriting and casting in a five week period while the city went into hard lockdown," he explained.

"Trying to manage resources and people without the usual ability to meet and talk frequently over many months as you normally would do in pre-production on a film certainly put unusual pressures in place,' he continued.

"Somehow though, those pressures have played into the movie's favour and taken the subject out of a certain realm of fantasy and grounded it in a reality."

Russell takes the lead role of Jake, a tech billionaire whose house is targeted by criminals.

Liam has recently been showing his softer side after sharing snaps of him cuddling up to this dog, Dora.

Teasing fans with a shirtless picture, he took a selfie with his pooch, who licked his face.

"Liam’s new era,” one Instagram follower replied.

Another added: “How does this man get more beautiful with age.”

The actor adopted Dora in 2015, tweeting excitedly about his new pal.

"New ‘gigantic’ rescue pup! Dora the Explorer,” he wrote.

He picked Dora up with his now ex-wife Miley Cyrus, and a rescue centre worker said that the dog took straight to Liam.

“Liam got back from China and literally came right to Wylder’s to take the dog home. The dog is super gentle and sweet and took right to Liam, despite being afraid of men in the past,” an employee at Wylder's Holistic Pet Center in Los Angeles said.
