Liam Gallagher and long-suffering brother Noel seem no nearer to any kind of meaningful reconciliation, then. Liam has slated a cover Noel and his band High Flying Birds performed of Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart yesterday.
Noel appeared on Radio 2 with the High Flying Birds, accompanied by the string section of the BBC Orchestra, to perform the Manchester standard, along with a handful of other tracks.
But ever willing to put the boot in, Liam has taken to Twitter to ‘apologise’ for his brother’s rendering of the tune. “I must once again apologise on behalf of my family for Rkids p**s poor and damn rite blasphemous version of joy division’s love will tear us apart tut f**king tut SORRY,” he said.

The former singer-songwriter in Oasis performed the show as part of Radio 2’s Piano Room series of gigs on Vernon Kay’s show. Introducing it, he said: “We are at the BBC and you can't get out the BBC without doing a cover. When [the BBC] asked me to do this I was like ‘I'm afraid I'm all Bob Dylan-ed out…… I don't know what to do’.
“I would play this song, this version of it, at home down the years. When they asked me to do it, I was like 'How can I get away with that?' Because it's such an iconic [song] and, being from Manchester… well, this is going to be tricky.
“But now I've got my own studio, I went and did a little demo of it and I was like 'You know what? I think I might be able to pull this off.' So we're going to do Love Will Tear Us Apart by the Divs.”
He also performed the track AKA... What A Life from the band’s 2011 debut album, and Council Skies, the title track from their new album, which is released today. Gallagher and his band will tour the UK this December, but before that will play a headline show at Wythenshawe Park on August 26.
