Liam Gallagher calls out Jamie Carragher after Man City and Liverpool 'giant club' comments

Liam Gallagher has hit out at Jamie Carragher on social media after the Sky Sports pundit said following Manchester City's win over Newcastle that a club cannot be classed as a 'giant' unless they have lifted the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola's side failed yet again in Europe's elite competition after Real Madrid came from behind to knock out the Premier League leaders at the semi-final stage on Wednesday night.

City were two goals up with minutes to play before Madrid stunned them in the Bernabeu.

Carragher's former side, Liverpool, will take on Madrid in Paris at the end of May in the showpiece final and the ex-defender insists the Champions League is a bigger trophy to win than the Premier League.

Carragher said in the Sky Sports studio after City's 5-0 win: "The Champions League is the biggest trophy you could win. How many leagues are in Europe....five teams every year will win that league. Only one team can win the Champions League, only one.

"You’re not seen as a giant club until you’ve won the Champions League. It’s a fact. In terms of City owners and Guardiola, to put them up there aa a super club, you have to win a Champions League. You have too."

City fan and former Oasis lead singer Gallagher seemingly didn't take kindly to Carragher's comments about his club and replied on Twitter saying: "Carra talking absolute turd."

Carra later fired back with: "I’m sure a man of your talents can work that lyric into the new album!"

Liverpool have the chance to make it seven Champions League wins when they take on Real Madrid in Paris on Saturday, May 28.
