Liam Fox in defiant Dundee United mood as pressure mounts on Tannadice boss after cup exit

Liam Fox has vowed to shut out the noise as Dundee United crashed out of the Scottish Cup.

The pressure is already on the Tannadice club with the team sitting bottom of the Premiership amidst fan protests. Fox admitted his team wobbled and showed a real nervousness as relegation rivals Killie knocked them out of the cup. The United head coach said: “There’s always a lot of noise but we will get back on the training pitch, I still have belief in this group of players. We will shut out the noise, there is no self-pity from us - everyone is entitled to their opinion. Everyone is entitled to criticise, that’s the way it is - there won’t be any mumping and moaning from me about it.

“When you’re under pressure you just have to keep working hard and stick to the process. People will have their own opinions on me and that’s fine, but in my experience of working with other managers when you’re chopping and changing it becomes a bit muddled. That’s maybe naivety from me, but that’s what I believe.

“When you’re the manager of this club and you’re bottom of the table, you expect criticism. We can roll over or we can get back up and get going again.”

Fox also knows his team led to their own downfall Mark Birighitti came and missed a cross for Kyle Vassell’s goal, while Loick Ayina was sent off on his debut.

Fox stated: “The goal was disappointing, a free header in the box - it’s not good enough. I thought the kid (Ayina) did great, he’s a young kid and he’s going to make mistakes. He had two fouls in the game and both of them were bookings. I thought the first one was harsh but he will learn from it, when you’re on a yellow card you have to make better decisions.”
