Li Haotong emerged victorious at the Qatar Masters, securing his fourth European Tour title with a thrilling one-shot win. The Chinese golfer, ranked 300th in the world, displayed nerves of steel as he sank a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole at Doha Golf Club.
Li's emotional reaction was evident as he let out a triumphant roar, pumped his fists, and was overcome with tears in the arms of his caddie. His clutch putt denied Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen of Denmark a chance at a playoff.
Finishing the tournament at 16-under par after a final round of 69, Li held off a strong challenge from Neergaard-Petersen, who carded a 65 to secure second place. Brandon Robinson Thompson finished two shots behind in third place after shooting a 70.
Reflecting on his victory, Li expressed his disbelief at his comeback, stating, 'I never thought I could come back in this position. This morning, I was really stressed.' This win marks Li's first title since his triumph at the BMW International Open in June 2022.
The Qatar Masters marked the conclusion of a successful four-event stretch in the Middle East for the European Tour. The upcoming stop on the tour is set to take place in Kenya from February 20 to 23, continuing the exciting global journey of professional golf.
