LGBT+ group to host 'solidarity dance' after Supreme Court ruling

AN LGBT+ protest group has invited the trans community and allies to dance in Glasgow following the Supreme Court ruling that women are defined by biology.

The landmark case was brought by For Women Scotland against the Scottish Government, which argued that the category of “woman” included both biological females and biological males who held a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC).

Cabaret Against The Hate Speech, a Scottish LGBT collective, has said they will be organising a "Solidarity Salon" following the ruling, with a dress code of "pink, blue, and white".

The "Solidarity Salon" will take place in Glasgow at George Square on April 19 at 2pm.

The group has also said a "designated safe space" will be communicated to those attending.

Posing on social media, the group said: "Historically salons were only for one type of woman to discuss ideas but we are queering up this concept and making it fully intersectional. "This is an open opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community to come together, raise their voices and express themselves. In these dark and troubling times we need to stand together and stay strong. Join us on Saturday and let us find comfort and strength amongst our queer friends, family and allies."

They added guidelines for those attending, writing: "Our three main goals are to sing together, celebrate our community and challenge hate speech with music, song and dance.

"We do not engage with anyone [who] are there to counter protest. We do not allow intimidation tactics or violence at our events this includes on banners and signs.

"Please arrive and leave the event in groups and cover or remove any identifiable colours, flags or signs before & after the event. Please feel free to bring your own signs, flags, megaphones, instruments & face masks if concerned about doxxing or Covid. Please pay attention to any instructions given by the organisers or stewards at the cabaret.

"We respect everyone's right to protest but if you do not follow our guidelines you will be asked to leave the cabaret. Please respect other people's personal space and boundaries.

"Do not touch the sound equipment or tech. You are not required to stay for the whole duration of the event.

"There will be a designated safe space before, during and after the event. Only those attending the event on the day will be made aware of this location."
