Leyton Orient ordered to replay Lincoln match in full after tragic death of fan

Leyton Orient will have to replay their League One fixture with Lincoln in full following the abandonment of the initial game due to the death of a fan.

Derek Reynolds lost his life after a medical emergency at Brisbane Road on October 3.

Home fans ran onto the pitch to urge the referee to stop the game while the 74-year-old was treated by the pitch, before the players were taken off and the match suspended.

The EFL have confirmed that the game will be replayed in full at a date to be confirmed, in a move that will likely anger fans given the nature of the tragedy and that Orient were 1-0 up in the 84th minute at the time of the abandonment.

An EFL statement read: “Having considered all relevant factors relating to the decision taken by the match officials and club stadium staff on the night, alongside the options available to them in accordance with the Regulations, the Board felt the most appropriate course of action was to reschedule the fixture in full.”

O’s fans paid tribute to Mr Reynolds at their subsquent home game, the 2-1 win over Reading played days after his death.

Lincoln installed a tribute on their memorial wall at LNER Stadium to pay their respects.
