A highly publicized public park project in downtown Lexington is getting a financial lift.
The Will Naylor Smith Foundation is making a $2 million donation to the Town Branch Park project. The water play area will be named for Susan Moulton’s son, Will Naylor Smith, who died 16 years ago at age eight in a car accident.
For the last five years, Moulton has been splitting her time between San Antonio and a horse farm near Versailles. She said she wanted to become more involved in the central Kentucky community, especially with children. Moulton said she was attracted to the park water feature because her son loved water and the outdoors.
The park will include a bronze sculpture of Will by artist Christine Turnbull. Construction on the park will begin this summer.
