Lexington’s Partners for Youth will announce more than $95,000 in grants during their annual Grassroot Grants celebration Saturday. Shanreka Shackelford, the group’s executive director, said some of the recipients are programs in the Fayette County school system.
“They have some programs at the different middle school, high school and elementary levels. And one example of one of the programs is a mentoring, a girls’ mentoring program.”
Shackelford said Partners for Youth is primarily funded by the City of Lexington. The non-profit has awarded more than 2-point-2 million dollars to nearly 500 different youth programs since 1995. Shackelford said the group’s overarching theme is community collaboration and growth.
“We are excited and happy that we can help those programs do what they need because those programs are serving the youth that we're focused on, which is why Grassroot Grants was started.”
Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said Partners for Youth helps empower and uplift young people and give them the resources they need to become successful adults.
