When school resumes in Lexington August 16th, for the first time in school history, Lexington’s Tates Creek High will have a female principal. Fayette Public School officials announced last week they had hired Dr. Kristy Field. Field said when she was interviewing for the job, she didn’t know the school now known as The Academies of Tates Creek High had never had a woman as principal.
“I did however, know that I would be the first person to be hired from outside the Tates Creek faculty to lead the school in I think it was 35 years. So I did have that little stat available to me.”
Field said taking over from longtime Tates Creek High Principal Dr. Marty Mills means she has big shoes to fill. She’s held several positions in the Fayette Public School system. Most recently, Field was associate principal at Lafayette High School and freshman academy principal at Bryan Station High.
“Each move I've made in my career moving out of the classroom, and then kind of each move in my administrative career has allowed me to have a positive impact on a larger group of students and a larger group of people. And this obviously, is the largest opportunity so far.”
Field also has experience as a special education teacher and was an intervention specialist at an Ohio high school for 14 years.
