Lexington Council to take public comment on comprehensive plan goals and objectives

Lexington’s City Council continues to review goals and objectives for planning development over the next 20 years. Public comment on Fayette County land use will be taken Tuesday afternoon.

The Council is holding a series of meetings to discuss comprehensive plan goals and objectives. Last week’s included a discussion about where to grow. Council Member Whitney Baxter would like to see a specific strategy.

“I would be in favor of putting more succinct time frames or a solid plan in place to where we can move forward with whatever we need to do to support the growth of this community. And I don’t think that we’re doing that right now,” said Baxter.

Council Member Fred Brown asked Long Range Planner Chris Woodall about expansion consideration.

“From your language here it doesn’t actually allow for any expansion of acreage. Is that a fair assessment of what you’re trying to say in goal 4?” asked Brown.

“I would say that, as proposed, this goal does not expand the urban service boundary. It calls for a process for a determination of how to make those decisions,” said Woodall.

Council Member Preston Worley expressed concern that the goals and objectives under review stop short of detailing an action plan for growth. A public hearing is scheduled for 5:00 Tuesday in the Council Chamber.
