Lexington city officials are putting out the word about grant opportunities for non-profit organizations. The details of the program were outlined to City Council members last week.
The city of Lexington has $6 million in American Rescue Plan Act money to distribute to nonprofits. Of that amount, $4 million is being set aside for facility improvements and $2 million for operational needs. Lexington Social Services Commissioner Kacy Allen-Bryant said there is an emphasis regarding grants for operations.
“This is not just nilly-willy expenses in terms of operational investments. It’s what’s going to help them carry out their mission, carry out their objectives and build their capacity,” said Allen-Bryant.
Allen-Bryant said the grants are for nonprofits located in or serving Fayette County citizens. She told Council the idea is to focus on those citizens with the biggest needs.
“We want to focus on agencies that have this proven track record who focus on our vulnerable populations and who work with or for residents of our service area which is Lexington-Fayette County,” said Allen-Bryant.
The social services commissioner told Council the aim is to see all the ARPA funds spent by the end of April in 2024.
