Lexington conference scheduled for next month to discuss women’s issues on a global scale

An international conference meant to discuss the similarities of the challenges women face across the world is coming to Lexington next month.

Speakers include the owner of a UK fashion company and the director of a South African nonprofit that focuses on equality in the tech industry. It’s being sponsored by groups including Central Bank and Team Kentucky.

Kinga Mnich is the conference organizer and a member of Ziva Voices, the nonprofit hosting the event. She says the conference is meant to showcase the similarities of the obstacles women face - and the diversity of the potential solutions.

“We are hoping that by bringing together all these different kinds of women from different backgrounds, different languages, different cultures, that we can showcase how important it is to collaborate more with one another,” Mnich said.

Mnich says holding the conference in Lexington instead of a major American city will help reach women of different demographics.

“We want to do a showcase that not only can we hold a conference like that in Lexington, but also showcase how important it is to take these events and place them into areas that have also more access to rural areas,” Mnich said.

The conference is scheduled for October 12 at 6:05 p.m. at the Kentucky Theatre. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are available online.
