Lewis O'Brien opens up on Nottingham Forest transfer saga with brutally honest admission

Lewis O'Brien admits the Nottingham Forest transfer saga was the "toughest" moment of his footballing career, prior to securing a move to MLS team DC United.

The midfielder's future had been up in the air since January when his move to Blackburn Rovers fell through on deadline day. The Championship side had appealed against the decision but it was blocked by an independent arbitrator at the time.

As a result, it meant O'Brien was unable to play for Forest after being left out of Steve Cooper's squad for the second half of the season. "I probably wasn’t the nicest person to be around for those four weeks after the Blackburn saga," the 24-year-old revealed.

"It’s definitely been the toughest part of my career so far. My fiancée Robyn dealt with the worst of it, I would go to training, do some running on my own, come home and probably wouldn’t even speak.

"I had two options – I could have just plodded along while waiting for the summer or I could have gone abroad."

O'Brien appears to have quickly settled into life at Wayne Rooney's DC United after a loan switch was agreed until July. "I’ve been here for just over a week, but felt at home straight away," he added.

"I’m here at DC United and absolutely loving it. The standard of the MLS is far higher than people think."
