Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien has said he "can’t wait" to start after completing a loan move to MLS team DC United.
The player’s future has been up in the air since January deadline day when a late loan move to Championship side Blackburn Rovers fell through. An appeal by Rovers in an attempt to complete the transfer was also unsuccessful.
After being left out of the Forest Premier League squad for the second half of the season, O’Brien was linked with a move over the Atlantic, with the transfer window in America still open. It was confirmed on Monday that a move to DC United, managed by former Derby County manager Wayne Rooney, has been completed.

The deal will see the Forest man join the club on loan until mid-July. DC United have also confirmed that there is an option-to-buy clause in the deal which could see the midfielder move permanently in the summer.
Following the confirmation of his transfer, O’Brien took to Instagram to give his reaction. “Another chapter,” he wrote in the captions of pictures of him posing in his new shirt. “Can’t wait to get going again.”
The move over to America comes just over six months after O’Brien joined Forest from Huddersfield Town in the summer. The 24-year-old struggled for regular game time in the Premier League, after being taken off at half time of the 4-0 loss against Leicester City back in October.
Upon the confirmation of the transfer, Rooney explained why he made the move to sign O’Brien. “Lewis has been one of the best players in the Championship over the last few seasons,” he told the club’s official website.
“He reads the game well and creates goal scoring opportunities. Bringing him in on loan from Nottingham Forest was a great bit of business for us and he will be a brilliant addition to our midfield.”
