Lewis Morgan claims he never felt Scotland chances were hampered by playing in MLS

Lewis Morgan believes he's never been out the thoughts of Scotland boss Steve Clarke despite playing in America.

The former St Mirren and Celtic star was a late addition to the national team squad that's heading to the Euros next week after Ben Doak was unable to overcome an injury.

He hadn't featured for Scotland since 2018 until being introduced for the last 11 minutes of Friday's 2-2 draw against Finland.

Now the 27-year-old is determined to take this long-awaited opportunity and show the country that it's worth Clarke and Co calling up players who pile their trade in the MLS - but only if their form merits it.

Speaking after the warm-up match at Hampden Park, the New York Red Bulls forward said: "I mean it's not something that I've thought about too often. I knew if I was doing well enough then I would be in his thoughts.

"And I think that shows obviously because people maybe think when you are out there, you are out of sight, out of mind but when you've got a manager as detailed as we've got here, I never believed that to be the case.

"I always knew that it was down to me and if I was doing well enough, I would get in and if I wasn't in, it was because I wasn't doing well enough.

"So, I never really had that."

Morgan has nine goals from 16 appearances this season and appears to be enjoying a new lease of life in the Big Apple.

"I think I've changed a lot as a player since I was last over here," he continued.

"I've adapted my game. I've been playing as a striker, as a nine most of the year as well, which is a little bit different. I feel like I've got a bit of versatility.

"But I probably am in the best form of my career at the moment."
