Lewis Hamilton looks set to make further forays into the music industry after an American electronic dance group teased his involvement in the making of their latest material.
Major Lazer, made up of producer Diplo and DJs Walshy Fire and Ape Drums, revealed to fans that they have been working with the Formula 1 star. Announcing their work on new music, they shared photos of themselves in the studio including one of Hamilton making a surprise appearance.
And fans couldn't help but notice the instrument that the Mercedes driver was holding. "Working on new music with @MAJORLEAGUEDJZ. Who's ready to hear @LewisHamilton's banjo solo?" the tweet from the trio's official account said.
While the banjo certainly appears to be a first for Hamilton, he has plenty of experience already in the music arena. He featured on Christina Aguilera's 2018 track "Pipe" under the pseudonym XNDA, though he did not reveal it was him until two years after it was released.
It was then that he also said he had been writing and recording music for the best part of a decade. "I had this incredibly beautiful and talented person reach out to me a while back asking for me to be on her album," said Hamilton in 2020.
"I was so blown away and I jumped at the opportunity. I had two hours to write the short verse and record. The goal was to have the music come out under a different name so that you could hear the music first and later know it was me but it didn't work out the way I'd planned.
"I shied away from acknowledging it was me, I don't know why, maybe Insecurities, fear, overthinking, something I think many people can relate to. Well I want to say that XNDA is me and I am so honoured and grateful to [Christina] for giving me a place to use my voice."
His latest musical foray comes after a flurry of other announcements from Hamilton about his activities away from F1. This week it was revealed the seven-time drivers' world champion had pumped some cash into TMRW Sports, the LIV Golf rival spearheaded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
That came after the creation of his movie and TV production company Dawn Apollo Films, and his investment in NFL franchise the Denver Broncos. But he has also made it clear that his main priority remains his racing career, telling fans: "It is not that [his other projects] are less important. My priority is with my job here with the team."
