Lewis Hamilton poked fun at George Russell as he reacted to being beaten by his Mercedes team-mate in Jeddah.
Hamilton finished the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in fifth place. He was one place behind Russell on the track, though the younger Brit was bumped up to third place after Fernando Alonso was hit with a post-race time penalty for not properly serving an earlier punishment.
Having started seventh, Hamilton might have been pleased with making up a couple of places in the race and beating both Ferraris. But, in his post-race interview, he was more irritated with himself for making the wrong choice regarding the setup of his car.
"We got some great points as a team," said the seven-time champion in the media pen after the race. "George got third, which is amazing. I went forwards, which is always the hope, to at least go forwards, one foot in front of the other.
"So I'm really grateful to have come from seventh to fifth. Strategy just didn't really work out for me. Set-up was a bit off. I think if I had the set-up that George had I would have been in a bit of a better position. Lots to work on but there are positives to take from it."
Despite his obvious disappointment, Hamilton was happy to have a cheeky dig at his team-mate when asked how much of a say he had on his setup for this weekend. He said: "We work on that. There was like a 50-50 choice. I chose one way and he chose another.
"More often than not, the way [Russell] went is the wrong one. But it just happened to work. So I could only match his pace than be quicker this weekend. But I'll work hard to make sure we are in a better place next time."
Team boss Toto Wolff seemed pleased with the result overall and said that he feels there is more of an understanding of their car now. He said: "I'm looking optimistic in the future because we just need to put it in a different window.
"We're changing the bodywork of the car, how the floor works, all of these things mechanically. We're looking at certain areas, and the team in Brackley is just flat out and that is really nice to see that we can monetise on the Sundays on that."
