Lewis Ferguson set for Bologna transfer as Aberdeen to land £3million for midfielder star

Aberdeen star Lewis Ferguson is closing in on a bumper £3million switch to Bologna after a fee was agreed between the clubs.

The Daily Mail report the Scotland international is en route to Italy to put the finishing touches on a stunning move to the side where Aaron Hickey had thrilled over the past two seasons. And Ferguson is following Hibs star Josh Doig - who will seal his own £3m transfer to Serie A when he joins Hellas Verona.

The Scotland international has long been coveted by teams such as Milwall, Lecce and Calgiari but he's chosen a move to Sinisa Mihajlović's side. Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin would have loved to have retained a key man but the Dons have stayed firm in holding out for £3m for a player who has two years remaining on his deal in the Granite City.

Goodwin has added several new faces this summer and could be in the market for with Ferguson joining Liverpool new boy Calvin Ramsay out the exit door. The Scotland U21s move to Anfield could eventually land the Dons an £8m feee. Ferguson had been nursing a knock during pre season and Goodwin addressed speculation surrounding the former Hamilton Accies star after the win over Brechin.

He said: “With Lewis we are well aware of the speculation. I don’t want to pull the wool over anybody’s eyes or anything. He took a bad knock in one of those games for Scotland and we have just been trying to protect him and make sure we don’t ask too much of him too early on. It’s as simple as that really."
