Lewis Capaldi thought he was 'dying' before Tourettes diagnosis

Lewis Capaldi has opened up about his Tourettes diagnosis and said that he thought he was dying before he was diagnosed. The 25-year-old joined Lorraine Kelly on her ITV sofa today to speak about his life lately and how he is dealing with managing the condition.

The Someone You Loved singer said people thought he was on drugs due to his tics and he revealed he has had botox to try and calm his shoulder tics.

Lorraine said she thought he was very brave to open up about being diagnosed. She added: "It was pretty brave of you, and I know you'll probably disagree with me, to talk about your Tourettes, I had no idea! When did you get diagnosed?"

Having a laugh as usual, he said: "I got told like seven months ago - it made a lot of sense I'm quite a jittery individual, a lot of people think I am on drugs when they meet me, I am not! At least not right now."

Lorraine then went on to ask if the diagnosis made things fall into place. Lewis said: "It made a lot of sense, I kind of raise my eyebrows a lot, I've got this shoulder thing, I take deep breaths and I thought I was dying - I'm a bit of a hypochondriac thinking I had some degenerative disease but I don't, so good news on that front."

The Scots TV presenter then asked if he has had treatment and he said he has had botox injected into his shoulder. He added: "I got botox in my shoulder to stop it moving, so that was nice, obviously I've had loads in my face so it was nice to have it put somewhere else! It's then just a case of trying to get my general anxiety down because it flares up when I'm nervous, excited, happy, overjoyed..."

Lorraine asked if it goes away when he performs on stage. "It definitely is still there, it's sometimes fine, it doesn't go away sometimes it's not as bad as other but it sometimes affects my speech because I'm holding my breath and taking deep breaths. But it's not as bad, I can live with it," He added.

He then said people have reached out to him thanking him for speaking openly about it. He said:"People have reached out saying I'm an ambassador, which is good, I've got a new title this week as well! It feels nice cause sometimes you can feel alone in these things and isolated. It's been a bit of an eye opener."
