Lewis Capaldi stuns The 1975's Newcastle fans with cameo four days after his headline gig in city

Lewis Capald delighted a packed crowd in Newcastle on Wednesday night when he graced the stage as The 1975's star guest, just four days after his own headline gig at the city.

Given that Taylor Swift joined Matty Healy and his bandmates at their show at London's O2 Arena, there was considerable hope that the band might pull a few strings on the home turf of their frontman's parents, Denise Welch and Tim Healy.

And, while Denise didn't make the cameo some fans had been hoping for, given her rousing reception on opening night in Brighton earlier this month, dad Tim wasn't just an avid spectator; he ended up being very much part of the show, arriving during the first act to sing All I Need to Hear.

The Benidorm star got quite the ovation from the capacity audience at the Utilita Arena and was later branded the 'king of the city' by son Matty as he told fans he owed Tim 'everything.'

But Tim wasn't the only unexpected guest to take to the arena stage on Wednesday as, taking a break from his own hectic schedule, Lewis Capaldi casually sauntered on stage to a wild reaction from the crowd; after the caption on the screen had informed fans that Harry Styles was the surprise guest act.

Ever the comedian, Lewis joked that he was bigger than ex One Direction star Harry in more ways that one, as well as sounding completely different to him, before performing two tracks, including version of The 1975's early track Antichrist and a cover of Taylor Swift's Love Story, which threatened to lift the roof off the place as the crowd went wild.

And, as well as getting a fantastic reception from those lucky enough to e at the gig, news of Lewis' The 1975 cameo quickly became a big talking point on Twitter. One fan reacted: "Newcastle got Tim Healy and Lewis Capaldi for the 1975 show, I think it’s safe to say we won" and another tweeted: "Tim Healy and Lewis Capaldi, Newcastle defo had one of the best shows of the tour"
