Lewis Capaldi has praised his friends for keeping him grounded throughout the rise of his global success in his new Netflix documentary How I'm Feeling Now'
The 26-year-old star commended his group of school pals, including LF System's Conor Larkman, for holding him accountable and helping him to stay down to earth.
Lewis shot to fame at the end of 2016 after his music was noticed on SoundCloud. Now, 15 billion global streams later, the star still attributes part of his success to the people he met as a student at St Kentigern’s Academy, or St Kents as it's known, in Blackburn, Scotland.
Describing his mates, Lewis says: "Friends that I hang about with now are still friends that I had in school."
"Michael [Duffy] is a grave digger, Conor [Larkman] is a roofer turned DJ, Niall [Cox] is a student recruitment officer, Dec Duff works with- welding things- an engineer of some form."
He jokes:" I don't know even know what an engineer does.
"Aiden Halliday plays the piano for me and is musical director, Aidan Beattie plays bass in my band, so two of them are hitched to my wagon."
Lewis' mates regularly share images on social media of what they get up to, with pictures of the pop star often cropping up.
"If you talk about being grounded and stuff like that, trying to keep your feet on the ground when you don't know what the f****** ground is for a lot of the time. But your relationship with your friends, is I think, the main thing.
"Really good for making sure you're not a c***.
As the Glasgow-born star and his friends are filmed having a pint in the iconic Barrowlands, Lewis' pal Niall quips: "I've defo noticed you've realised you can pay someone else for anything... That's not a bad thing, it's free drink."
Lewis Capaldi's Netflix documentary How I'm Feeling Now will be available to stream on Netflix on April 5, 2023.
