Lewis Capaldi's Netflix documentary praised for its honesty and emotion

Viewers have praised a new Netflix film telling the story of Lewis Capaldi’s rise to fame. The one-off film, How I’m Feeling Now, follows the Scottish singer on his journey to becoming a household name.

In the "honest" and "emotionally devastating" documentary, Capaldi reveals how his life completely changed after he achieved fame with hit singles 'Someone You Loved' and 'Before You Go'.

The documentary, directed by Joe Pearlman, captures Capaldi at a studio in his family home in Whitburn, West Lothian, where he starts work on his sophomore album. It features the singer opening up about personal struggles that include his Tourette’s diagnosis.

Ahead of the film's launch, Capaldi admitted on Twitter: "Absolutely bricking it to show you the trailer for my Netflix documentary 'How I'm Feeling Now' has been a weird 2 and a half years for me and it's all been captured in this film… the most emotional film about an overweight guy since The Whale."

Among those commenting was one person, who shared: "What a lovely, lovely, lovely lad. He’s put himself under so much pressure and suffered because of it. His mum and dad are such good people too." Another called the documentary “emotionally devastating”, writing: "It moved me to tears. Seeing the effects of the pressure to stay successful happen on many levels, that‘s heart-breaking stuff."

Others praised the singer for his emotional openness, with one saying: “Lewis Capaldi documentary is awesome, so emotional to see his struggles, top talent, deserves his fame."

Capaldi recently revealed that he was diagnosed with Tourette's last year, and admitted that his symptoms have been “getting quite bad” when on stage.

On fan said: “Lewis Capaldi is such an inspiration to those of us living with Tourette’s. He proves that we can live a happy, fulfilling life no matter what. "

How I’m Feeling Now is streaming on Netflix.
