Lewis Capaldi's Edinburgh girlfriend 'comforting' star after latest announcement

Lewis Capaldi is being 'supported' by his Edinburgh girlfriend Ellie MacDowall, during his newly announced career break.

The West Lothian star struggled through his set at Glastonbury set at the weekend, after losing his voice and dealing with Tourette's tics. He's since been met with support from fans, and said he won't be performing for the rest of the year.

Taking to social media, he said he would be taking an immediate break from touring and the limelight. An insider has said girlfriend Ellie is a 'huge support' to Lewis behind the scenes, reports the Daily Record.

A friend of the singer told the Daily Mail: "Lewis needs to be around those who love him at the moment and Ellie is supporting and comforting him through this really difficult time."

They added: "He absolutely adores her. She wasn’t at Glastonbury but his parents were, along with his very supportive team that he has around him. As soon as he got home, Ellie made sure she was here for him."

Ellie, who is reportedly to star as Cary Grant’s daughter in an ITV biopic, lives in London but spends a lot of time in Scotland. Lewis’ tour was set to kick off at the end of June and he was due to perform across the globe from the UK and Europe all the way to Australia and New Zealand.

In a new social media post, the singer thanked his adoring fans and gave them an update. He said: "Hello everyone. First of all, thank to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world.

"The fact that this probably won't come as a surprise doesn't make it an easier to write, but I'm very sorry to let you know I'm going to be taking a break from touring for the forseeable future.

He continued: "I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I'd hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.

"I know I'm incredibly fortunate to take some time out when others can't and I'd like to thank my amazing family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who've been so supportive every step of the way through the good times and even more so during this past year when I've needed it more than ever.

"I'm so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve.

"Playing for you every night is all I've ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I'll be back as soon as I possibly can. All my love, always, Lewis x"

Fans of the 26-year-old star sang along to 'Someone You Loved' after he battled through ticks and losing his voice at Glastonbury.

At the festival, he told his loyal fans: "I recently took three weeks off just because I have been non-stop since the start of the year and I wanted to have a wee break for my head and my mental health.

"I wanted to come back and to do Glastonbury because it is so incredible, so I just wanted to thank you all for coming out and watching us.

"I was s**t-scared but you really made me feel at ease. I am really sorry and I hope (Emily) Eavis will have me back on because this has been a f*****g s**t show."
