Lewis Capaldi reveals Tourette's syndrome diagnosis and admits it 'makes so much sense'

West Lothian singing superstar Lewis Capaldi has revealed he has been diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome.

And the 25-year-old global sensation admitted he was relieved after fearing he had a degenerative disease.

He says he is undergoing treatment, including Botox injections, as he learns to lives with the condition, which is characterised by involuntary sounds and movements known as "tics". He revealed to fans on Instagram that he was going public with his diagnosis so people didn't think he had been "taking cocaine or something".

Capaldi's diagnosis comes days after the star stripped down to his underpants for a billboard campaign to promote his new single Forget Me - his first new song in three years.

He said: "I do this shoulder twitch quite a lot. You see it underneath TikToks and stuff, people like, 'why's he twitching?'

"Curiosity is fine, I get it, but some people are like, 'he's definitely taken cocaine'. Do you think, before I play to 20,000 people as an anxious person, I'm going to take a big line of cocaine? Never going to happen.

"It’s a new thing. I haven’t really learnt much about it. I'm learning."

He added: "I got Botox in my shoulder to stop it moving - it works for a bit but it gets worse. The worst thing is when I'm excited, I get it. When I'm stressed, I get it. When I'm happy, I get it.

“Some days it’s more painful than others, sometimes it’s quite uncomfortable but it's not that big a deal. It looks a lot worse than it' looks. I guess that’s it. When they told me, ‘We think you’ve got Tourette’s’, I was like, ‘Do you know what, that makes so much sense’.

“When I look back at my interviews from 2018 and all the rest of it I can see that I’m doing it, but it comes and goes.

"Sometimes I can go months without doing it. I thought I had some horrible degenerative disease so I’ll take Tourette’s.

"Other than that, healthy as f***."

The cheeky crooner also revealed that he splashed £900 on a medical exam for insurance purposes at the start of the year. He said: "All they did was say, 'you're absolutely fine, you're just fat'."

Lewis' new single Forget Me is out this Friday - and is widely expected to go straight to the top of the singles charts. His debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, stayed in the top 10 album chart for 77 weeks.
