Lewis Capaldi moves into Glasgow flat after branding his £1.6m farmhouse a ‘hell hole’

Lewis Capaldi has said the £1.6 million farmhouse he bought on the advice of pal Ed Sheeran turned out to be a "hell hole".

The 26-year-old bought the sprawling property on the outskirts of Glasgow two years ago, after deciding he wanted to move out of his parents’ house in lockdown.

However, the Someone Like You Hitmaker quickly discovered he hated the home’s decor and said the place smelled of cigarette smoke and dog after moving in.

The property is so unhabitable that Capaldi has had to move into a flat while the place undergoes a full renovation.

Speaking on US radio station 104.3 MYFM, the BRIT winner said: "Ed Sheeran told me to buy this house and it’s an absolute hell hole.

"We were talking during lockdown about how I wanted to move out of my parents’ house and he went online and looked at this place and it looked great.

"From the outside it is beautiful, there’s sprawling hills, there’s a lake.

"He didn’t realise that it would smell of cigarette smoke and dog. I moved in and I hated the decor, I hated everything about it,” he continued.

"I did go and see it but I was too eager. I was like, ‘that smell of dog and smoke will go away after a while,’ but it didn’t. We have ripped that place out and it still reeks of dog and smoke.

"I have made some bad decisions over the last two years and that was one of them.

"I am redoing the house. Ed Sheeran should technically reimburse me for the money I’m having to pay on this. Ed is a property tycoon but he’s never bought a place in Scotland obviously because mine is awful."

Earlier this year, Capaldi was given permission to build an extension to the property which will include a swimming pool, changing rooms, a spa and sauna.

He had already been given the green light to convert old stables into a gym while the abode will also feature a media room, home cinema, an expanded master bedroom and a new kitchen.

Aside from house woes, Capaldi’s return to music has been a success as his song Forget Me, the first single from his second album, went straight to the top of the charts.
