Lewis Capaldi jokes he's joined the Illuminati during two-year break from music

Lewis Capaldi has stunned fans after announcing his new single, Forget Me, will be released on September 9 as he gives fans an insight into his time away from the spotlight.

The West Lothian star made the announcement during his second sold-out show at London's O2, much to the delight of his fans. The Someone You Loved singer is gearing up to release his second album three years after his chart-topping debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.

However, taking to Instagram on Friday night, the 25-year-old has given fans an update on how he has spent the last couple years. Speaking to the camera, he joked: "What have I been up to all this time? Working away, bought a house, joined the Illuminati.

"Very big for me to get to work with the guys and gals over there. Great bunch. Jay-Z, Paul McCartney, Simon Cowell. Very lucky to go and work with them. I was hoping I would get the call and I did."

During his second night in London, Capaldi told fans: "It's good to be back. I'm very happy." He continued: "I said at the start of the show it's been a while since I released new music, a very long time, three years in fact, but thankfully on 9 September that changes.

"Next week I release my first single from this next album. It's called Forget Me, so that's good news. As well as that, I am going to play that song for everybody here tonight.

"I am showing 20,000 people my song for the first time. I'm very nervous. No one has heard any of this music apart from you all here tonight," he told buzzing fans.

The Scots hitmaker started his O2 concert with Grace And Forever, joking with the crowd afterwards, saying: "This woman keeps waving her crutch at the air, you're going to have your benefits revoked. There's going to be some government in here. I'm just looking out for you."

During the track Bruises, Capaldi was seen playing a piano from a floating stage and he said: "I never thought I was afraid of heights, it's intense isn't it? The whole thing is a f****** facade, I'm not even playing the piano. It's showbiz, we are all liars."
