Lewis Capaldi invited a fan to perform a duet with him at his Bristol gig on Wednesday (24 May).

Yasmine Kabbara-Dolby, 17, was personally selected by Capaldi to sing his track “Someone You Loved” on stage after he spotted her banner.

“I met you four years ago, please can I sing with you?” her message read.

Speaking to BBC about the experience, Kabbara-Dolby said: “It was the most surreal experience in my life.

“It was a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I really wanted it to happen but I didn’t expect it to.

“The thing that scared me the most wasn’t the 2,000 people watching but singing in front of Lewis Capaldi.

“I could not see anything, the lights were so bright.

“It’s been amazing and I’m a developing artist in Bristol and it’s such an amazing platform that people have heard my voice and started following me.”

Capaldi released his second studio album, Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, earlier this month.

The Independent’s Annabel Nugent gave the album a three out of five-star review, writing: “[Capaldi] is the sort of personable charm that even the slickest PR machine can’t drum up. It is also, unfortunately, something that’s too often missing from this album. That and variety.”

Last month, the “Before You Go” singer revealed that he still reads reviews of his music, even the less favourable ones.

In an interview with The Independent, Capaldi said that he remains appreciative of, and entertained by the takes on his musical stylings.

“I still enjoy reading reviews of my music… even the bad ones,” he said. “Thomas H Green of The Arts Desk said I sound like ‘a constipated Hozier’ and I thought that was hilarious.”

He continued by coming up with his own comparisons: “I think I sound more like a Paolo Nutini knockoff. Or like if Adele was a guy and not as good.”
