Lewis Capaldi has released his brand new single Pointless, and fans have gone absolutely wild for the track.
The singer’s debut album, Divinely Inspired to a Hellish Extent, was released three years ago and was given certified triple platinum status as the best-selling album in the UK in 2019 and 2020. After taking a break from music and live performances during the pandemic to focus on his second album, the Someone You Loved singer is back and better than ever.
Pointless, the brand new track from the West Lothian crooner, was put together by a powerhouse of song-writing talent. The 26-year-old wrote it with Steve Mac, who is responsible for dozens of chart-topping records, Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, and a little help from Ed Sheeran.
Speaking of his latest release, Lewis said: "Incredibly proud of this song, probably my favourite I’ve ever written! Add it to your playlists, stick it on repeat all day and all night, send it to your friend, your enemy, a stranger, your mum's boyfriend that you hate. Let’s have a big fat sexy cry together x"
The Bruises singer also wanted to clarify that his latest release is inspired by love, and not the quiz show. “It’s not about the TV programme unfortunately, though that would make quite entertaining listening,” he told The Big Issue, adding: “I’m all about Richard Osman, even though he’s left.
“No, it’s a song about being in love, which for me is an almost alien concept. My songs are usually about falling out of love or being heartbroken or something like that. They don’t often lean towards just a happy love.
“Listen, we’ve got a song like Someone You Loved, which gets played at funerals. And it’d be nice to have a song like Pointless that gets played at weddings. Basically it’s a cash grab.”
Fans absolutely love the latest release from Capaldi, and took to Twitter to share their thoughts. One fan said: " @LewisCapaldi #Pointless is A M A Z I N G sorry Lewis, gonna be one of those cringe couples on tik tok now thanks to this absolute mad banger!"
"Just so you all know, if I lose my voice and die it's gonna be @LewisCapaldi for release a banger like #pointless while I'm at home being sick af. I really shouldn't be singing but I just can't stop," wrote another. A third agreed: "“Pointless” by @lewiscapaldi is literally the greatest song of all time."
Another penned: "pointless is the least depressing song @LewisCapaldi has ever written and i think that’s beautiful," while someone else said: "pointless is so beautiful!! so proud of you @LewisCapaldi "
Lewis Capaldi's second album, Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, will be released on May 19, 2023.
