Lewis Capaldi has revealed that he was kicked off Tinder after bosses believed he was a catfish. The 26-year-old Someone You Loved singer's profile was suddenly removed from the popular dating app because they believed his profile was fake.
The crooner, from Whitburn, West Lothian, made light of the situation as he joked there would be better celebrities to catfish as he doesn't "get many bites" on his account.
Speaking to the G2 supplement in The Guardian on Monday, he said: “Yeah, they thought I was catfishing. If I was going to catfish any celebrity, it wouldn’t be me. You can’t get many bites on a Lewis Capaldi Tinder account, and I know that, because I own one."
Speaking about his attempts to woo women on dating apps, he added: "I just try to be as normal as possible with it. Being on Hinge and being on Tinder – a normal 26-year-old guy would be on Hinge. So, for my own sanity, and to meet people, I need to be on these things.
"But then you have to worry about this sort of power imbalance. I have to assume that most girls my age, in the UK or Scotland at least, have a passing familiarity with who I am, even if they’re not into me, so that makes things weird. It’s an odd dynamic, where they’ll at least have an idea of what I’m like, but I know nothing about them.
“On the other hand, we’ve seen so many men take advantage of their positions of power and their positions of influence. I don’t want to take advantage of my position in that way. I’m happier being used than using someone, do you know what I mean?”
Lewis also revealed that his dad is suspicious and asked why anyone would go on a date with him. He said: "I'm very suspicious of people… it comes from my father. My dad hates everyone until they prove themselves.
“If I'm going on a date with a wee girl, he's like ‘What does she do? Why's she going out with you?' He's very cautious and protective and it's kind of bled down to me."
Lewis recently shot to the top of the UK singles charity with his new song, Forget Me, last month, making it his third UK number one. The pop sensation also announced his brand new album last week, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, which will be out on May, 19 2023.
The new album is the follow up to his smash-hit debut Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent.
