Lewis Capaldi cancels US show over 'family emergency' in touring crew as he issues heartfelt apology

Lewis Capaldi has announced he has been forced to cancel his Portland show due to one of his touring crew having a "family emergency".

The Scots star issued a heartfelt apology to his fans in the US after taking to Instagram to let them know that he'd been forced to pull the plug on the gig despite it being the "last thing" he wanted to do.

Lewis, 26, told his 6.5 million Instagram followers: "Portland I'm absolutely heartbroken to have to do this but I'm going to have to cancel the show tomorrow due to a family emergency within the touring party making it no longer possible for the show to go ahead.

"I'm so so so sorry to have to do this and as always cancelling a show is the absolute last thing I want to do but under the circumstances it's the only option."

The Pointless singer confirmed that all tickets purchased will be automatically refunded and that the tour will continue "as normal" this coming Sunday at the Greek theatre in Berkeley, California.

Last week, Lewis celebrated his fifth UK number-one single with his latest hit Wish You The Best, from his new album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, which will be released on May 19.

The Bathgate-born star's latest achievement put him up there with some of the best hits of all-time as he equals the likes of the Black Eyed Peas, David Bowie, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, and The Police with No 1 singles.

The Scottish singing sensation is currently touring across the US and belting out bangers to his stateside fans on his biggest tour yet, which has completely sold out.

We reported previously how he left his fans across the pond thrilled following a performance in New York when he surprised gig-goers with an appearance of the Jonas brothers who joined him on stage and left his fans speechless.

The Scottish hitmaker welcomed Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas onstage during the American leg of his tour, performing the iconic throwback 'Lovebug' as Lewis joked he was now a new member of the gang who shot to fame in the early 2000s.

Lewis Capaldi has been contacted for comment.

Lewis Capaldi's Netflix documentary How I'm Feeling Now is now available to stream on Netflix.
