Lewis Capaldi can't find builders to renovate £1.6million home Ed Sheeran told him to buy

West Lothian crooner Lewis Capaldi has said that he is struggling to get a hold of builders to help renovate his new £1.6million farmhouse that he purchased on the advice of Ed Sheeran.

The singer bought the home three years ago after his superstar mate Sheeran foraged the internet to find the farmhouse.

But after moving to the seemingly luxurious property on the outskirts of Glasgow, he has discovered that it reeks of cigarette smoke and dog, with Capaldi describing it as a “hell hole.”

The Someone You Loved performer has said that he also detests the decor and that he has opted to hop into a flat in Glasgow instead, the Daily Record reports.

The 26-year-old, who is originally from Whitburn, said the house is now just a “shell” and that he is struggling to convince construction workers to undertake the renovation project.

He has joked that he will need his upcoming second album to take off so that he can afford the renovations for the farmhouse.

Speaking on US radio, Capaldi said: "Let's put it this way, if this album doesn't go well I have a real issue on my hands. That house is now a shell. I have ripped it all out and right now it's squalor.

"We keep on finding builders and they keep on being like 'Nah, not for us'. People are turning me down. I'm offering to pay the money and they're like 'No, not for us, that's not the one'. So Ed has still burdened my life to an incredible degree."

Capaldi also joked he had been trying to get in touch with Sheeran after he said in an interview he would buy the house from him. He added: "I saw Ed saying he is going to buy it off me. I've been chasing that man on email and nothing. I haven't seen him since."

Last year, Capaldi was given permission to build an extension to the property which will include a swimming pool, changing rooms, a spa and sauna. The star had already been given the green light to convert old stables into an exercise room and a gym.

His renovation plans also include a media room, home cinema, an expanded master bedroom and a new kitchen. The singer releases his new album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent in May and is currently touring the US.

Last week Netflix released a documentary on his life called How I'm Feeling Now, which charts his mental health battles since finding fame.
