Lewis Capaldi and One Direction 'best pal' Niall Horan to feature in Irish road trip documentary

Lewis Capaldi, who is currently celebrating the success of his new single Forget Me, will soon be appearing on our TV screens alongside former One Direction star, Niall Horan.

It comes as part of a new documentary which will see the iconic music duo visit Ireland.

Titled Niall Horan’s Homecoming: The Road to Mullingar with Lewis Capaldi, the documentary will see the pals make the journey from Dublin to Mullingar with lots of adventures along the way.

Filming for the show took place back in August at the Fleadh Cheoil 2022, which was in Niall's hometown of Mullingar, with many pictures having appeared on social media of the men making surprise appearances in parts of Ireland. At the time, pictures showed the pair walking through the town laughing and smiling as they swung by a mural of Niall, a statue of Joe Dolan and various different shops, with their film crew in toe.

The much anticipated documentary, according to the Daily Record, is in collaboration with stout brand Guinness, and announcing the news they said: “Guinness proudly presents, Niall Horan’s Homecoming: The Road to Mullingar with Lewis Capaldi.

"Three days, two globally recognised musicians, one incredible road trip documented in an episode filled with fun, friendship and laughter. What happens when two of the biggest names in music embark on a road trip in Ireland? A film that captures adventure, friendship, storytelling and non-stop laughter.

“All inspired by Horan’s desire to revisit and reconnect with all that he loves of home; to retrace the origins of the exciting life journey he’s on and experience the reality of Ireland today, alongside side his best friend, Lewis Capaldi.”

As well as making a pit stop to the infamous Guinness Store House and naturally enjoying a few pints of the stout, the musicians also went along to the city's Grafton Street as ecstatic fans were treated to a number of hits, with the crowd growing during the performance - and now it seems it was all for their new show.

Busker Jacob Koopman managed to keep his composure as the two chart-toppers joined him for a number of songs, including Niall's own song, Slow Hands and Yellow by Coldplay.

In fan footage which circulated online at the time, Niall can be seen playing the guitar while Lewis encourages him to belt out Slow Hands and dances along while the pair share a microphone.

Busker Jacob is also seen playing the guitar while the trio sing along to Lewis' hit song Before You Go.

Niall previously explained to FM104 that the pair have been pals since 2018, saying: "It started a couple of years ago when I first brought out my album (2017). I did a few shows and then I think it was March 2018 when I met Lewis for the first time."

"I had written to him on Instagram and told him I was a fan of what I'd seen so far and then (I asked him) if he'd like to come and play a few songs before me at a gig in Glasgow."

The pair will be following in the footsteps of the likes of Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish as well as Martin Compton and Phil MacHugh, who currently have road trip adventure style shows airing but based in Scotland.

The documentary, Niall Horan’s Homecoming: The Road to Mullingar with Lewis Capaldi, will air this Sunday (October 16) at 10pm on Virgin Media One.
