Levi Davis: Mum of missing X Factor star breaks silence on new drowning theory

The mother of Levi Davis has broken her silence on the revelation that cruise workers tried to save a drowning man shouting for help in English in a Barcelona port around the time her son went missing.

The 24-year-old former Bath player and Celebrity X Factor contestant was last seen at The Old Irish Pub in Barcelona on October 29.

It is thought that Levi walked back down La Rambla and entered the commercial port with his phone last pinging a mast at the far end of the port closest to the sea entrance.

It has now emerged cruise ship staff reported trying to save a man who was in the water in the same colour clothing near Barcelona’s commercial port.

After meeting Spanish police the family were told four cruise staff saw a man matching Levi’s description in the water shouting for help in English at 6.30am on October 30.

In a statement, they said: “A life jacket was thrown from the ship and emergency sea and air rescue services searched the area but they were unable to find him.”

His family criticised “slow” Spanish police with Levi’s mother Julie Davis telling The Sun: “Why is this information about the cruise ship staff only coming months later?

“I don’t know what to believe any more.

“I know the Spanish police can be slow but I can’t make head nor tail of it.

“It’s disheartening when you ask police questions and get very limited feedback.

“It’s been a total emotional rollercoaster.

“The way the evidence is pointing isn’t good but without a body, there’s just no way of knowing what’s happened.”

She believes Levi was being blackmailed and his life was in danger as she retraced his last-known steps along La Rambla.

It came after his family said reports of “hearsay” have been causing “a huge amount of distress” and are “potentially damaging the reputation of a young man who has achieved so much in his young life”.

A statement said: “Following a meeting with the Spanish police on Wednesday March 1 and contrary to the false and distressing stories being published in some of the newspapers, the facts are as follows:

“Gang involvement is not being considered or investigated at this time as their focus is on facts and concrete evidence including where he was last seen, telephone calls he made, apps he used and people he may have arranged to meet.

“They have now identified who he was last in contact with.

“This is still a missing persons case, it is not and never has been a criminal case and there is not and never has been an imminent arrest.”

His passport was found by the port but after that the trail has gone cold.
