Levi Colwill speaks out on Chelsea future amid Liverpool transfer interest

Levi Colwill has made clear he is yet to make a decision over his Chelsea future amid interest from Liverpool and other clubs.

Colwill impressed during his loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion last season after spending another year away from Stamford Bridge. And after the stint ended, he was the subject of a £30m offer from the Seagulls, which his parent club were quick to turn down.

The 20-year-old, who spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Huddersfield Town, has since seen his stock rise further after winning the European Under-21 Championship with England, who did not concede a single goal during the tournament.

Such performances are likely to ensure clubs remain interested in a deal for Colwill, who has a battle on his hands to occupy a starting spot in Chelsea's first team ahead of the new campaign given the options available to new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Liverpool are one of the teams interested in Colwill, as first reported by the ECHO back in March. He is a player who could slot in effectively as a left-sided defender should Jurgen Klopp stick to the system trialled during the latter stages of last season.

Aware he has reached a critical point in his career, Colwill told the Times: "I’ll speak to my family, speak to everyone I need to and make a decision. I’ve got to play at the end of the day to hopefully get there [England senior team] and go to the next camp.”

Colwill's future may well be decided based on the judgement of Chelsea's new boss, Pochettino, who must determine who he sees as key players in his team and who can be moved on.

Pushed on how he views the in-demand Colwill, Pochettino recently admitted: "I need to get a feel for him. I need to hear what he has in his mind. What he expects. And then, of course, for him to listen to what I expect from him."
