Levi Colwill breaks silence on future as Liverpool consider transfer options

Liverpool-linked defender Levi Colwill has been coy on his future at Chelsea but expressed his appreciation for the trust Brighton & Hove Albion put in him.

The England U21s international has revealed that he will hold off on any prospective talks over what comes next until after the European Championships in Romania and Georgia which is set to kick-off at the end of June. Liverpool have been mooted with the 20-year-old in recent months after impressing in his first Premier League stint with the Seagulls.

Colwill cut his teeth in professional football during successful loan spell with Huddersfield Town in the Championship. He was apart of the Terriers side who fell marginally short to return to the English top-flight as they suffered defeat in the playoff final to Steve Cooper's Nottingham Forest.

The ECHO understands that Colwill is admired by recruitment chiefs at Anfield after showcasing his potential during his debut campaign in the Premier League. Manager Jurgen Klopp recently admitted that if there was a good central defender in the market that fit the Reds criteria that they would make a move in the summer.

Brighton's boss Roberto De Zerbi has expressed his intentions to retain the 20-year-old for their first season in Europe after securing Europa League football. Colwill admitted he'd love to repay the faith that the Seagulls put in him to bring him to the AMEX Stadium on a temporary basis from Chelsea.

"Brighton have done a lot for me," he said speaking to the The Athletic. "They put their trust in me when others didn’t and I’m a person that loves to repay that. We’ll see.

"I don’t know what is going to happen. I’m still here until the end of the season. I just focus on that, then I’ve got the [Under-21] Euros in the summer. After that, we’ll see what happens and go from there.

"Who knows, we’ll see what happens in the summer. I love the Brighton fans, I love everything about them (the club). I’ll take that into consideration."
