Letters: 'It's time to start fixing Nottingham city centre'

A second Nottinghamshire Live letter writer has shared her hopes that new life can be breathed into one of Nottingham's busiest city centre areas. The writer, who gave her name as Mrs Boot, said she was saddened on a recent trip out and she hopes Lister Gate can return to its former glory.

'It's time to start fixing Nottingham'

I used to love shopping at the bottom end of town. I went on a train journey last month and had to walk through Lister Gate. I was saddened to see most of the shops closed. It feels like the life has been taken out of the city centre.
Yes, there is a new library and bus station/car park.
People shop online now so some nice green areas would be nice to wander through. The streets of Nottingham on the whole are dirty with dog fouling and rubbish.

It is sad to see after visiting places like London, Birmingham and Leicester that are lovely and clean and free from potholes.

The area needs more bins and more signs and fines for litter and dog fouling.

The castle is opening but at a cost. The grounds and cafe should be free to visit and payment taken only to visit the inside of the castle. It is a shame that council tax went up and Nottingham is in decline. It is time to start fixing Nottingham.

Mrs Boot, Nottingham
