In the early 1960s Bill Kenwright and I were both in the National Youth Theatre. His broad Merseyside accent provided a high point during our production of Richard III. It’s hard to do phonetic justice in print to his flat-vowelled news as Third Messenger that “by sudd’n fludds and fall of waters, Buckin-gum’s ahhmee is dispehhhrsed ’n’ scatta’d”. But I’m sure my own broad Yorkshire was no less amusing to others.
David Johnson

Bill Kenwright’s Golden Years show on Radio 2 until 2020 was a dream, full of wonderful rock’n’roll records, his inimitable voice, charm and most of all love for the music.
