I recall Timothy West as a comically overbearing Professor Furie in A Very Peculiar Practice (1986). He forces a nervous Peter Davison to go drinking with him and disparages - at the top of his voice - a nearby group of lecturers dining with their external examiner as “three half-wits kowtowing to a nonentity”, together with their professor, who “hasn’t had an original thought in his life”.
