In addition to all his other activities, Pete Wilkinson was a co-founder, with me, and several others, of Nuclear Waste Advisory Associates, an independent group of experts created to provide advice to communities considering hosting nuclear waste disposal.
Pete was also a participant for many years in the energy department’s Nuclear Non-Governmental Organisation Forum, as well as chairing the Office for Nuclear Regulation’s NGO stakeholder forum, the first environmental activist to do so.
Pete was most comfortable in direct activist challenge to the nuclear industry, but proved knowledgable and adept at participating in these stakeholder engagements, always challenging the atomic authorities to be more open and transparent.
Above all, Pete was brave, with great integrity.
