
I worked in the private office of Lord (Rodney) Elton while he was a minister at the Home Office. He would often return from meetings of the ministerial team with doodles over the agenda which we would retrieve, for our amusement. One such went as follows: “That dapper young man, David Mellor / Was always a well turned out feller / He’s turned up today / In exquisite grey / But where is the well-rolled umbrella?”
