Over more than three decades, as a politician and an overseas development activist, Glenys Kinnock campaigned for social justice and women’s rights at home in the UK and in the global south.
As a board member of War on Want in the 1980s, she maintained a laserlike focus on its development aims and objectives when it was going through challenging times.
In 1986, she and others set up One World, a campaign within the Labour party, to build greater awareness of international development. Four years later she helped found One World Action, an NGO/charity that supported partner organisations in Africa, Asia and Latin America in fostering active citizenship to tackle poverty and injustice. She was often referred to as “the MEP for Soweto”.
Glenys was serious, thoughtful and compassionate, but with a great sense of fun and a mischievous twinkle in her eye. She was a delight to spend time with at work and socially. Her friends in Britain and around the world will miss her.
