In the 1960s Heather Wood and her co-singers in the Young Tradition showed friendliness and generosity to a boisterous group of secondary school pupils, of which I was one. We met them while taking part in a folk song festival at Cecil Sharp House in London, and invited them to perform in a concert at our school, North Romford comprehensive.
We could not have afforded to pay them much for their travel and performance, but nevertheless they participated with great enthusiasm and supportiveness towards our fledgling efforts.
