As Newcastle United players go, Miguel Almiron is one who is loved and loathed in equal measure. The forward’s attitude is never in doubt but his end product is a frustration for many Toon fans.
With the takeover opening the club up to potentially signing the very best players, what does the future hold for Almiron at Newcastle? In the latest episode of The Everything is Black and White mini-series Lets’s Talk About, John Gibson and Andrew Musgrove are focusing on Almiron and whether he can remain part of Eddie Howe’s squad.
The pair have very different views on Almiron - Musgrove, a big fan of the Paraguayan, whereas Gibbo is very honest in his assessment: he’s nothing more than a squad player. But as we’ve seen with Joelinton, Howe has a knack for turning a player’s career around - and Musgrove hopes the same can be done to Almiron in the new season, acknowledging otherwise it could be the door for him.
“I do think he’s got another level to go to,” Musgrove said, “[He hasn’t got to it yet] because of down to where he has been played and a little bit down to luck.
“Under Howe, with a bit of discipline and a full pre-season under him with a positive focus being on Newcastle with the mood and all the elements that are playing into a good feeling around the club, I think there is another level to go to and I’m hopeful he can get to it this season.”
The pair discuss Almiron’s character, his best position as well as the options Howe has in front of the former MLS star, which all could play into a decision on his future. You can listen to the full episode of Let’s Talk About Miguel Almiron by clicking the widget above.
