Let’s all laugh some more at the Packers not drafting a first-round wide receiver again

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning. Charles Curtis is filling in for Andy Nesbitt.

I’m still clearing the tears of laughter out of my eyes on Friday morning.

The Green Bay Packers traded Davante Adams this offseason. They have Allen Lazard, who is not a WR1 as far as I can tell. Aaron Rodgers isn’t getting any younger.

And in a year when there was one of the stronger wide receiver classes and an entire offseason in which WRs were on the move like never before, the Packers STILL REFUSED TO GET RODGERS SOME HELP!

Brb, going to laugh some more.

Oh, sure. The Packers have a pair of second-round picks, which means they could move up and try to get Christian Watson, George Pickens or Skyy Moore. But this is a team that can’t afford to throw darts on Day 2. The franchise Super Bowl window is open … and who knows if Father Time will catch up with Rodgers in a way that it hasn’t for Tom Brady.

Fun fact: The last time the Packers drafted a receiver in Round 1? Javon Walker in … 2002! They’ve managed to unearth gems like Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Adams since then. But the opportunity was there to use one of their two first-rounders to either take one or move up to do it.

Sure, Rodgers seemed pretty calm about all this while appearing with Pat McAfee on Thursday night. But how’s he going to feel when he’s once again missing depth at the position … and this time Adams isn’t there?
